Breakfast for Dinner: Biscuits and Gravy

I don't know how many of y'all do "breakfast for dinner", but if you haven't tried it, you are truly missing out. My mom is ALWAYS asking for breakfast, and to be honest, ever since my pregnancy, I have had a strange obsession with biscuits and gravy. I hated it beforehand! Now I LOVE it. My family LOVES that I love it!

This recipe has taken me a couple of tries to master. Even as I type it up, I am thinking of ways to make it unique and BETTER than the last try. I always encourage y'all to spice things up your way, so don't hold back on this one!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb country mild Jimmy Dean pork sausage

  • 1 tsp. minced garlic

  • 2 tbsp. butter

  • 1/3 c. flour, divided

  • 3-4 c. whole milk

  • 1 tsp. seasoned salt

  • 1 tsp. onion powder

  • salt and pepper

  • 1-2 cans your favorite biscuits

  • eggs and bacon for serving

Instructions

1. Brown and break up sausage in a large pan, over medium-high heat, until fully cooked. About 6-7 minutes.

2. Add garlic and stir until fully incorporated.

3. Add butter and then flour. Flour should be added in 3-4 parts.

4. Once combined, slowly stir in milk. Season with seasoned salt, onion powder, salt and pepper.

5. Bring to a low simmer, stirring occasionally.

6. Once your gravy is at your desired consistency, remove from heat.

7. I keep it real simple with this one and use a couple cans of Pilsbury Grands! Butter Tastin' Flaky Layers Biscuits. Grease up your pan, lay them flat and bake them for 8-9 minutes at 350°F. I normally start those the last 10 minutes of my cooking.

8. Serve the gravy over the bisucits. I like to serve this with bacon and eggs, sometimes potatoes, and then cinnamon rolls for dessert!

Tips & Tricks

  • To achieve desired thickness: refer to my Tips & Tricks in my Creamy Lemon Chicken-for thicker gravy, use more flour, for thinner gravy use more milk.

  • Really any flavor of breakfast sausage will work for this recipe.

  • If you are gonna cook a full on breakfast, I highly recommend making your gravy last. Trust me, I made this mistake last time!
